2014 National Human Development Report Thailand

2014 National Human Development Report Thailand

March 31, 2014

On the last day of 2015, the people of Thailand become part of the ASEAN Community. What impact this will have on their lives is difficult to foresee. The ASEAN Community is a new idea, unlike any other regional grouping. At present it consists of three plans, known as Blueprints. What the ASEAN Community will become and what impact it will have on human development, depends on how the member governments work to realize these plans.

Thailand’s score on the UNDP’s Human Development Index (HDI) has risen steadily for over 30 years. In 2013, Thailand ranked 103rd out of 186 countries, close to the top of the “medium human development” category. Since 2003, UNDP in Thailand has tracked progress on human development in greater detail using the Human Achievement Index (HAI), a composite index covering all the key areas of human development. The trends revealed by ten years of this index help set the agenda for this report.
