Bangkok/ 24 November – UNDP partners with BEC-TERO Entertainment Public Co. Ltd. continuing His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej mission on human development in order to achieve the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs).  In addition, Ms. Thunchanok Moonnilta (known as French-Fry) (Miss Thailand World 2015) was appointed a role as Friend of UNDP to support and promote the sustainable development through UNDP projects across the country.

At 13:00, Plaza Athenee Hotel, Mr. Supol Wichienchai (Deputy Managing Director of BEC-TERO Entertainment) and Mr. Martin Hart-Hansen (UNDP Deputy Resident Representative) have signed an agreement to drive the SDGs with a concept “From the Legacy of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej in Human Development to UN Sustainable Development Goals”. This will be promoted in Thai, English and Chinese by Ms. Moonnilta, as well as she will invite her friends distributing the campaigns such as Project on assisting those affected by the Southern situation, Occupational development in upland, Reforestation, Sustainable agriculture, and Sustainable tourism.

Mr. Hart-Hansen honoured His Majesty that through an incredible 70-years reign, thousands of royal development projects have benefited millions of people across Thailand. “In the course of UNDP’s long history in supporting the development of Thailand, we have learned that in every remote area we go, working with the most marginalized groups, there are always projects under the patronage of His Majesty to address the root cause of under-development and environmental degradation”, he said.

“At the core of His Majesty’s development philosophy lies the importance of building resilience to external and internal shocks, and resilience is today a core element of the new global development agenda – the 2030 agenda or the SDGs. Recognizing this extraordinary contribution to the development of Thailand and of his people, UNDP led by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan presented His Majesty Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej with the first Human Development Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.  His Majesty was the first and still the only person who has ever received that award to date.  His Majesty’s legacy in human development has become the backbone of development in Thailand and beyond”, he added.
